What is Unseen NYC?

Unseen NYC is a gallery of pictures, many from camera phones. The scenery is typically unique to those of us that live in New York City neighborhoods. More information can be found here: What is Unseen NYC?

Who is Unseen NYC?

@drivenbyboredom and @trypnotik started publishing this collection in the fall of 2010. Some of the original Unseen NYC contributors include: @hschoolpoppers, @tokyohanna, @flavorpill_nyc, @thenewpop and @slutlust.

Why did you start Unseen NYC?

I love living in the city. I grew up running around in busy streets and I love their unique, dirty charm. I also love the anonymous fame of street artists, taggers and armies of Sharpie shit talkers. Beyond that there is an element of irony to things like a styrofoam cup stuck in a fence, or torn jeans hanging on someone's tree. This is a document of the cleverness, creativity and strangeness of our neighbors.

How often is Unseen NYC updated?

Unseen NYC will be updated at least once a day until we run out of pictures.

Can I send in pictures too?

Undoubtedly YES! For instructions on how to submit your pictures to Unseen NYC, please go to Submit a Photo to Unseen NYC

What kind of pictures should I send?

Anytime you're walking down the street in New York and you see something inanimate and interesting. Some of the things that we've taken pictures of are stickers, litter, odd snowdrifts, flooded intersections, alleyway scenes, unique city views and of course clever bits of vandalism.

How do I know what neighborhood I'm in?

NYC.gov has an awesome PDF Map of New York City Neighborhoods.

Why don't you have more classic, hip-hop style graffiti?

This site isn't just about graffiti. It's about the living city and the different anonymous and semi-permanent signs that people were here. Sometimes that means a dope mural, but that's just one of the ways that the city communicates. If you've seen an amazing piece, please send it to Unseen NYC and we will add it to the collection.

I know who did that one! Wouldn't you like to know who it is?

Absolutely not! Please do not identify yourself as an outlaw, and please do not identify any of the outlaw artists featured in Unseen NYC. That way if Unseen NYC ever gets subpoena from the city, or something like that, we have no evidence against New York City artists.

I know the name of that graffiti character, or I can read that tag/piece. Can I tell you what it is?

YES! If you recognize a piece and you know it's name, please let us know so we can label it properly.

I don't like vandals, and I don't appreciate you condoning the defacement of my fair city.

Sucks to be you...move to Mount Kisco. If you want information about how to put a stop to this urban moral decay, I suggest you contact the NYPD Citywide Vandals Task Force. Best of luck, chump.
